A short remark about anti-aging: So far, this mainly meant 'cosmetic products of often / most dubious effectiveness' - at least, if you would trust test reports. The expensive ointments worked for the day, worked when they had been applied fresh - after all! With the research results of Prof. Sinclair  (it's about the substance NMN, nicotinamide mononucleotide, see also this short video on X), a new era begins: 'Anti-Aging' no longer means 'improving the appearance'; from now on, anti-aging really means anti-aging, at least slowing down, but actually stopping or even reversing the aging process. The new 'anti-aging' starts at the roots, at the genes - and you can not get deeper, because below the level of the genes you can not talk about life anymore.

Genetic approaches to anti-aging

Sirtuins and NAD+

Prof. David Sinclair has conducted extensive research on sirtuins, a group of enzymes that play a key role in regulating the aging process. Sirtuins are activated by NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), a molecule whose levels in the body decrease with age. By increasing NAD+ levels, sirtuins can be activated, leading to improved DNA repair, increased energy production in the mitochondria and an overall improvement in cellular function[1][3].

Epigenetic changes

Sinclair has also studied the role of epigenetic changes in the aging process. Epigenetic factors such as SIRT1 can be redistributed in response to DNA damage, leading to aging of cells. Through targeted epigenetic modulation, these changes can potentially be reversed, allowing cells to rejuvenate[1].

Xenohormesis

Another interesting concept is the xenohormesis hypothesis, which states that plant compounds produced under stress conditions can activate longevity mechanisms in animals and humans. Resveratrol, a polyphenol from grapes, is a well-known example of such a substance that activates SIRT1 and can thus extend lifespan[1][6].

Practical applications and products

NMN and NR

Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and nicotinamide riboside (NR) are precursors of NAD+ and have been shown in studies to increase NAD+ levels and thus reduce age-related loss of function in cells. These substances are already available as dietary supplements and are being intensively researched to confirm their effectiveness and safety in humans[3][6].

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is another example of a substance that intervenes deeply in the genetic mechanisms of aging. It activates sirtuins and has shown in studies that it can extend the lifespan of model organisms and combat age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's and cardiovascular diseases[6].
