Nicotinamide powder (CAS 98-92-0)
Nicotinamide ('NA') is the amide of nicotinic acid (niacin, vitamin B3). So NA is not itself niacin or, outdated, vitamin B3, even though this is often wrongly equated. It is a molecule other than niacin (= nicotinic acid = vitamin B3). A study of 380 skin cancer patients in 2015 showed a positive effect of NA (New England Journal of Medicine, 373, 2015, pp. 1618-1626). It is also striking that NA has proved to be helpful in cancer patients, because the effectiveness of radiotherapy could be increased by administering NA. The Deutsche Ärztezeitung reported in 2012 that NA had been shown to be effective in the treatment of multidrug-resistant bacteria, and in mice NA was active against Alzheimer's (Journal of Neuroscience, 28, No. 45, November 2008, pp. 11500-11510).
These effects of NA are based on NA acting similarly (albeit weaker) than NMN: it improves the repair mechanisms in the cell that correct for errors that are inevitable in cell division. NA costs only a fraction of what NMN costs, and if you cynically wow, you could say it's the poor people's NMN.
In the context of our studies (see AFEGA Research Group) we have observed very positive effects of NA. We took about 1 g per day and observed similar effects to those reported with NMN, in short: increased vitality, felt rejuvenation effect.
Especially noticeable was the effect of NA in cosmetics: a significantly improved skin appearance, noticeable reduction of fine wrinkles, which made the skin appear smoother and younger. With prolonged use also a significant reduction / lightening of so-called age spots.
